MOSQUITO AWARENESS WEEK  IS APRIL 26-30

Elk Grove, Calif.— The Sacramento-Yolo Mosquito and Vector Control District announces Mosquito Awareness Week April 26-30. This week officially kicks off the mosquito and West Nile virus season and the Districts public education and advertising campaign to inform the public about the health risks associated with mosquitoes. “With the late rains earlier this week and the high temperatures expected over the next few days, mosquitoes will be breeding and Mosquito Awareness Week serves as a good reminder for the public to take the necessary precautions to prevent mosquitoes” said David Brown, District Manager. Stagnant water that has accumulated in back yard sources, ditches and drains is ideal for mosquito breeding. This is why the District encourages residents to take the threat of mosquitoes and West Nile virus seriously and to do their part in ensuring they are not producing mosquitoes around their home. “Preventing mosquitoes now will go a long way later in the season,” said Brown. ”Please check your yard for standing water and report any neglected pools in your neighborhood.”
