Public Information and Education

Our award winning public information and education department strives to raise awareness of mosquitoes and diseases they can transmit such as West Nile virus and other. Education and outreach is done through an aggressive media campaign utilizing radio, web ads, outdoor media and print ads. Information is also disseminated to the public through extensive media coverage throughout the year, participation in various public affairs shows, live web chats and television programs.

Two additional elements important to our department are community outreach and education. We host information booths at several events throughout Sacramento and Yolo counties where educational materials are disseminated and the public receives information mosquitoes, West Nile virus prevention and our District services. Our school program also includes lesson plans that can be used in the classroom, an annual FIGHT the BITE contest and a teacher workshop.

We provide mosquito control and prevention presentations to individuals of all ages. This program consists of visual presentations, practical demonstrations and a question-and-answer session. In addition, we provide informational pamphlets and brochures on topics ranging from West Nile virus and Lyme Disease to Yellowjackets and Bees.
